We recently conducted a routine Timber Pest Inspection at a local home, with a Treated Zone installed 5 years ago by another company which was now due for renewal.
After previously having problems with termites at the property, the home owners didn’t hesitate to accept our quote and have Amalgamated Pest Control re-protect their home with a treated termite barrier.
With no treated zone installed, the structure is at a much greater risk of termites once again entering and causing untold damage, which is often incredibly costly to repair.
What did we do?
The ‘Trench, Treat and Backfill’ option was undertaken at the home, treating the soil around the entire structure to create a zone that repels or kills any termites that try to enter.
Our technician dug a nice straight trench around the perimeter, exposing the footings while taking care not to damage any penetrations and power or phone lines. Removal of things such as hot water systems and air conditioning units are sometimes required to enable the technician to get in behind them and create a complete barrier.
The soil that is removed removed from the trench is taken off site and discarded. The trench was then flooded with the leading termite treatment product Termidor, and backfilled with replacement soil that had been brought to site and treated. The refilled trench was then re-flooded until it resembled a muddy consistency, like a slurry, taking care to get in behind penetrations and pipes etc.
While this is a job that can get very messy, with a lot of dirt and mud around the entire home, our technicians take great pride in leaving the home owners site in good condition, nice and neat.
Aside from the physical work of installing the termite treatment, our technicians also provide advice to the home owner on how to help ensure the best results. This advice includes, among other tips, keeping the perimeter of the home free from garden beds, no wood chips against the house, and not attaching unprotected structures to the home structure.
In keeping with recognised Australian Standards, it is recommended to have a Timber Pest Inspection carried out by a Licenced Pest Control Technician at least every 12 months.
