We recently attended a rental property where there was a severe infestation of bed bugs. The bed bugs were now in the beds, lounges, clothing, soft toys, light fittings and carpets. The family’s 6 year old son’s bedroom was the major area of infestation. He was covered in bites.
Our technicians explained to the tenants that they needed to pack all clothing, soft toys, bedding and linen in black plastic bags. They then needed to take them to an industrial laundry mat and wash them in hot water and then dry them in the industrial dryer on hot. We also recommended that the lounge suite and the six year olds bed frame and mattresses be disposed of prior to the treatment.
They were also advised they would need to purchase bed bug mattress & pillow protectors. On the day of treatment, using the bed bug vacuum cleaner, Tye and I vacuumed all mattresses, skirting boards and carpets. We later completed a two week follow up where there were no signs of active bed bugs found. Tye and I were very happy with the outcome and had peace of mind that the little boy could sleep soundly without being bitten.
This was a distressing experience for the family, so prevention is always better than cure when it comes to bed bugs.
How do you get rid of bedbugs?
In pest control, bedbugs can be one of the hardest pests to effectively treat and control. Bedbugs are very elusive and usually nocturnal. They have a very fast reproductive capability, allowing their populations to grow very quickly and can survive for long periods without feeding. Bedbugs lodge themselves into dark cracks and crevices often going unnoticed in their hiding places such as the folds of mattresses, coils of springs, upholstery of chairs, cracks in furniture, and other many other similar items which may be stored close to a host. They lodge their tiny eggs into similar hiding places making them very hard to detect also. When inspecting for a potential bed bug infestation, our highly trained Bedbug Management Technicians are looking for several tell-tale signs, live Bedbugs, eggs, faecal spotting, blood smears on linen and furnishings, moults, and bite symptoms. These indicators can be very hard to identify to the untrained eye, which is why if you suspect you have a Bedbug infestation at your residence, don’t try to treat it yourself, this will often be near impossible to do so effectively, call in the experts. We have a vast understanding of this pest and will develop an integrated pest management strategy which will effectively manage your problem.
Where do bedbugs live?
When treating a Bedbug infestation, it is essential to identify every hiding place in the residence that the Bedbugs are using. Such an inspection will take some time to complete. If all hiding places aren’t found, it is very unlikely that the treatment will be successful. Once all these locations are identified and the full extent of the infestation is known, the treatment plan can be put together. More often than not, more than one treatment will be required to control this pest using a combination of both chemical and non-chemical methods. At Amalgamated Pest Control we physically remove as many eggs, young and adult bedbugs as possible using specialised vacuum technology then carefully, and effectively, apply treatment directly into the harbourages of these pests. These methods ensure both your safety and the bedbug infestation is controlled extremely effectively. In most cases we will offer a service warranty which helps you rest easy knowing that if the bedbugs come back, so will we.
